From July 17, 2010 on we will have to use our reusable / returnable bags everytime we go grocery shopping in Rio de Janeiro. This is the law in our beautiful city. Are we really ready to go green?

Seriously, the problem is NOT going shopping, but walking the dogs. How are we supposed to keep the streets clean without those bags we used to bring from the supermarkets? What about the kitchen trash and toilet trash? We’ll have to buy plastic bags for everything now. And these plastic bags will cause the same problems, won’t they? So, what’s the diference? I guess nothing is going to change…

For sure “being Green isn’t easy.” But it ain’t new either. We must try and try harder and harder if we want to see the future.

I think what this video means is correct, I mean, people have to do some things to make the world a better place for us to live in. And we have to motivate those people. The video says one more thing which is specially correct, the US are always saying to the media that they are the best, but if you see they are one of the countries that cause more terrible things to the Earth. They don’t know the right thing to do in some points, they should do some campains about it, to motivate the population of their country and other countries to save the Earth. And an other problem is the landfills, they are huge and awfull, and there they have lots of trash, which can probably make people sick. This trash should be all recycled. That’s what I think is supposed to be done.

Although it’s important to consume less plastic bags, we need them to do a lot of things. Some things aren’t so easy to recycle, like the trash in the house. I guess it’s impossible for a person to use the same bag that he used to put the trash of the house, especially the bathroom trash. Could a person recycle that bag? I don’t think so. I agree that we can reuse the plastic bags to go shopping or go to the supermarket for groceries. It can be a good way to start reducing the consume of this object, but we can’t reuse all the time. About the video, it shows the reality and it’s good, because it makes you wonder “Oh my gosh, is the world like that? Could I do something to help?”, and the answer is obvious.. Of course, you can. All of us can start doing little things, for example..turn off the lights when you are not on the place, use energy saving lightbulbs, turn off the faucet while you brush your teeth, take short showers or turn off the shower when you’re using shampoo. If you have a car which uses gas and alcohol, instead of the gas, you can use alcohol, even though it’s expensive. The alcohol eliminates less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere it can reduce the damage of the ozone layer. If each person in the world does a little thing like that, it’s about 6,5 billion people helping the Earth. We can do everything we want to save our planet.
